How we evaluate and determine alignment

Our process involves multiple conversations across Durham Success Summit, enabling us to gain deep insights into your skills and potential fit within our organization.

Here is an overview of our hiring process:

Apply with Cover Letter and Resume: Submit your application along with a tailored cover letter and resume highlighting your experiences and qualifications.

Video Call with a Team Member: Selected applicants will participate in a 30-45 minute video call with a member of our team. This conversation will allow us to learn more about your background, skills, and passion for our mission.

Assignment/Exercise: Candidates who move forward in the process will be given an assignment or exercise that aligns with the role they are applying for. This step allows us to assess your abilities and problem-solving skills.

Interview with Executive Director or Leader/Board Member: Top candidates will be invited for a 60-minute interview with our Executive Director, Derek, or another leader/Board member. This interview will focus on getting to know you better, exploring your interests, and assessing your fit within our organization.

On-Site Meeting with the Team: Candidates who progress further will be invited to our premises for an opportunity to meet some of our team members in person. This step allows for mutual connection and ensures cultural alignment.

Professional Reference and Background Check: Prior to finalizing an offer, we will conduct a professional reference check and background verification.

Evaluation Assistant (Part Time)

The Evaluation Assistant will conduct original research in topics of interest to DSS and work to disseminate those findings via thought leadership activities, such as through professional meetings, public presentations, and via report and memo writing. This person will play a critical role in helping DSS increase our usefulness and impact by making program evaluation a standard part of our programming practice. The ideal candidate will have a background at the intersection of policy and education – our specific research interests include workforce development, diversity and inclusion, and community development, but we welcome additional suggestions for research agendas. While academia is one audience for this work, we also anticipate that the fellow will also be an effective communicator with other more general audiences, including local policymakers, nonprofit, and private sector leaders.

This person will also be mentored by staff at the Center for Child and Family Policy at Duke University and be expected to develop professionally in a variety of ways, such as reading articles, attending workshops/trainings, as well as research dissemination at events.

The candidate for this position must be currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program within public policy, behavioral and social sciences, education or other disciplines relevant to evaluation and DSS’ work.

Interested candidates should submit a resume and optional (though strongly encouraged) cover letter using the link below.
