We're changing the trajectory
for all of Durham's youth 16-24.
This isn't just about jobs. It's about economic mobility, generational wealth, and the future of our community.
OUR EVOLUTION
Founded in 2021 to address the employment crisis facing young Black men in Durham, our proven model now serves all young people who need support navigating the transition from school to work, unemployment to employment, and uncertainty to career clarity.
We believe that every young person deserves access to:
- Career clarity through exploration and coaching
- Professional skills that employers value
- Mentorship from industry leaders who believe in their potential
- Networks that open doors to opportunity
- Support that removes barriers and builds confidence
OUR VISION
We envision a Durham where every young person—regardless of background—has access to career pathways that lead to personal growth, economic mobility, and long-term success. A community where barriers don't determine outcomes, and where opportunity is accessible to all who seek it.
OUR MISSION
Durham Success Summit increases access to career readiness education, mentorship, and professional networking opportunities for youth ages 16-24 in Durham—with a focus on reaching those who face the greatest barriers to employment and economic stability.
OUR CORE VALUES
ACCESS
Opportunity shouldn't depend on who you know. We break down barriers by providing free programming, wraparound support, and direct connections to employers and industries that are hiring.
EXCELLENCE
We don't do halfway. Our programs are intensive, outcomes-focused, and designed to prepare participants for real-world success. We hold ourselves—and our Scholars—to the highest standards.
COMMUNITY
We build together. DSS isn't just a program—it's a community of young leaders, alumni, mentors, and partners committed to each other's success. We show up, we support, we celebrate growth, and we stay in touch.
EQUITY
Everyone deserves a fair shot. We prioritize reaching youth who face the greatest systemic barriers, and we design our programming to meet people where they are—not where the system expects them to be.
RESULTS
Impact matters. We track outcomes, measure progress, and hold ourselves accountable to the young people we serve and the community that supports us. Our work isn't theoretical—it's measurable, tangible, and life-changing.
